President’s Report November 2026

Welcome to the November edition of our newsletter.

October has been a busy and productive month across ASCCA.

Strengthening Leadership & Our History

We recently concluded a successful search for our next Treasurer and Company Secretary, and we look forward to formally appointing them at our upcoming AGM.

Earlier this month, I dropped in to see our founder, Nan Bossler. Aside from a very enjoyable afternoon tea, Nan handed over five journals capturing ASCCA’s journey from day one. Looking through them is inspiring. A detailed record of what the founding team built to bring clubs together and support seniors with technology. We plan to digitise them for to help guide us as we define ASCCA’s next chapter, before depositing the originals with the State Library for permanent preservation.

Looking Ahead to Our AGM

Our Annual General Meeting is scheduled for 20th November. Meeting notices and papers have been emailed to members, and relevant reports will be uploaded to our website prior to the AGM.

Along with electing the ASCCA Board, we will reflect on our work this past year to rebuild ASCCA’s brand, strengthen our structure, and secure our future. We will also present our new strategy and ask members to ratify our updated constitution, which introduces key changes to ensure robust governance and clearer support for members.

Expanding Partnerships & Reach

We continue to broaden our national reach, exploring partnerships with two major universities focused on AI safety for seniors, digital health literacy, and accessing essential services.

We are also bidding for a Victorian government grant to help establish clubs in underserved areas, building on our work in Greater Western Sydney to better support culturally and socio-economically diverse communities. Additionally, a warm welcome back to Penrith Valley Seniors, Narwee Baptist Church, and Hornsby RSL—we look forward to supporting your local efforts.

 Events & Founations

Later this month, Castle Hill Computer Pals for Seniors will host our Get Online Week event. My thanks to the club for hosting us; we look forward to reconnecting with members and newcomers over morning tea.

Behind the scenes, our team continues securing our IT platforms, refining our website, and updating our social media presence to better engage partners and sponsors. You will also notice our refreshed newsletter layout, designed based on your feedback to be easier to read online and print. Thank you to everyone attending our monthly Clubs Forums, and please feel free to bring along friends and colleagues so they may benefit from our expanding community.

Informed Engagement in AI

Recent developments in AI highlight both the immense potential and the responsibility surrounding this technology. AI can foster equity, but getting it wrong carries real risks.

Finding the right balance requires informed participation. ASCCA is committed to being part of the discussion and representing our community. We are also working to provide more support for interested clubs with practical AI guidance and session materials for committees, trainers, and members.

Closing Remarks

While I do not personally follow horse racing, I appreciate the opportunity that the Melbourne Cup offers to bring people together. Its a great opportunity to foster friendship, connection, and a sense of belonging. I wish you all a enjoyable time celebrating with your local clubs and friends, and I look forward to seeing you at our AGM on 20th November.

Warm regards,

Joseph Vijay
