Telstra’s 3G Network Shutdown: What You Need to Know

The image captures a telecommunications worker in a cherry picker crane performing maintenance or installation work on a tall tower packed with various antennas and communication devices. The tower is situated in a dense, forested area, indicating a remote location. This type of work is essential for maintaining the connectivity infrastructure that enables mobile and wireless communication. The clear sky suggests fair weather conditions, which is typically preferred for such outdoor operations. The image likely represents efforts to upgrade or maintain the network, which could be related to the telecom advancements like transitioning from 3G to 4G or 5G services.

As part of the technological shift towards more advanced communication standards, Telstra has announced the closure of its 3G network across Australia by 30 June 2024. This change highlights an urgent need for users of older mobile devices to check their phone’s capability, particularly for emergency calls over the 4G network using Voice over LTE (VoLTE) technology.
