Logan Area Committee on the Ageing Inc

The Logan Area Committee on the Ageing is dedicated to improve facilities for seniors in Logan by introducing new activities and networks of support appropriate to their needs. Computer training for the over 55s was first introduced into the Logan Central Community Centre in 2011 by the Safe & Confident Living Program. We have six up-to-date computers which also have ADSL internet access. The purchase of the equipment was made possible thanks to the generosity of Gambling Community Benefit Fund and Jupiters Casino Community Benefit Fund. All computers were updated in 2006 thanks to the Community Renewal program. Computers were again updated to 8 computers in 2010 through fundraising efforts. We were also successful in receiving funding for the seniors internet kiosk. We are very fortunate that the computer training is conducted by volunteers who all have expertise in computer and training. This helps keep the costs to a very minimal fee and enables retired people affordable training and email contact with their family and friends who may be overseas. At present the classes are conducted over a four week period with the exception of some workshops. Topics include the following: Basic 1 & 2 for Windows XP; Vista and Windows 7; Internet; Email 1 & 2; PC Maintenance & Security; Photo Editing Part 1 & 2; Open Office; Digital Camera Workshop; How to start tracing your family history workshop; eBay workshop; and mobile phone workshop. Classes are only run when we have at least 4 people to do the course.
