Clarence Valley Seniors Computer Club
During February 2005 Maclean Rotary called a meeting of seniors to gauge support for the proposed formation of a Seniors Computer Club. Approx 26 people attended and agreed to form a steering Committee to establish a Club. The steering committee was sponsored by Maclean Rotary and after advice and guidelines from ASCCA incorporation and name registration was obtained. By June 2005 things were beginning to look good with Rotary receiving 10 pre-loved Council Computers and negotiations for the use of a Showground Pavilion progressing well. In July 2005 the steering Committee was wound up and the C.V.S.C.C inc. was formed with our Club room being in the Maclean Showground Pavilion. For the remainder of 2005 our Club went from strength to strength. Our sessions planned for 2 days a week soon increased to 4 days and a membership of over 60. In April 2006 our Club approached the Council for a more suitable building and was pleasantly surprised with the offer of the former Council chambers rooms and after an affordable rental agreement a lease was signed. Council provided us with most furniture and the use of the Internet service was a tremendous boost for the Club.
With a membership of over 100 now and training Sessions being held 5 days a week except for Public & School Holidays we are now satisfying our objectives by providing this much needed service to our community. We appreciate the assistance given to us by Maclean Rotary; Clarence Valley Council and our hard working volunteer Tutors.
Our Management Committee meets on the last Thursday of each month and members are welcome to attend. With 10 Computers networked our class size at present is limited to this number. However we try to accommodate all interested members with extra sessions.
