
Brisbane Seniors Online prepares to run an upskilling and training day for volunteer mentors in Brisbane.

Brisbane Seniors Online (BSOL) is in the process of planning an upskilling and training day for its 150 volunteer mentors. This is traditionally called BSOLutions. BSOL has been operating in the Greater Brisbane area for just over 20 years and provides one-on-one home training for learners who are over 50. Tuition in Windows, Android, Apple, Linux, digital photography and smart phones is available using volunteer male and female mentors. Brisbane Seniors Online has no paid staff. There are around 700 learners, associate members and office volunteers. Home training of learners as well as there are four special interest groups that meet by zoom or a combined face to face and Zoom arrangement.
The event is planned for Thursday 22 June 2023 at the beautiful Queensland Cricketers’ Club (QCC) overlooking The Gabba football and cricket ground. Brisbane Seniors Online headquarters is in the Gabba Towers building next door to the QCC.

The speakers and presentations will be by National Seniors Chief Operating Officer Chris Grice, COTA (Qld) CEO Darren Young and BSOL Patron attending with Eugene McAteer, Julie Novotny from NSW on digital mentoring and a Be Connected recipient, Vision Australia/Quantum Peter Cracknell (full vision) and Brendon Donohue (blind) on low vision devices and NDIS resources available to vision impaired users, Mal Gamble from Brisbane Seniors Online on ChatGPT, artificial intelligence and hub mapping systems, Keir Tierney from NBN about the fibre network and medical alarms, Brisbane City Council library resources and media conversion stations, Australian Computer Society on Future Directions of Computing, Paul Boult on multi factor authentication, password managers and management, VPN and security.
Time permitting, it is hoped to get some additional discussion on genealogy, scams, cybercrime and the basics of cryptocurrency creation and Bitcoin.
It is hoped that these upskilling and training days will be made available to active Brisbane Seniors Online mentors at least annually.
