June Be Connected Update

ASCCA SWADE Project Be Connected Capacity Builder

We have successfully recruited and trained 51 digital mentors for our Round 8 Be Connected Capacity Building project.

This round has seen us go to face to face delivery, with the connections of the Australian Museums and Galleries Association of WA (AMaGA WA) and our former project partner contacts. With their assistance, we have managed to meet the target for our Digital Mentors, we now have until mid-August to provide the follow up support for the 51 mentors to complete this project.

As we chose regional WA for our targets, – I thought I’d share the logistics and statistics for this project, and I was in Darwin for other business, so we added a session in there in October for AMaGA Members and our previous contacts in the NT.

We delivered a free, full day of Be Connected Digital Mentor Training in the following locations:

Perth (x2) in September 2022 and May 2023

Darwin October 2022

Bunbury, Kalgoorlie and Geraldton November 2022

Katanning, Port Hedland and Broome May 2023

This equates to approximately 2 hrs travel for each hour of delivery! We had 56 hours of delivery time, about the same again in preparation time, and required three trips to Perth to access towns down in the southern reaches of WA. I have flown 20,850 kilometres – which is about 28 hours in the air, via six airports (and about the same amount of time again sitting in or travelling through said airports) AND I have driven almost 3,000km to those towns that were easier to drive to, which is another 30hrs in transit. Jen and I live in a BIG state!
